Strive to Enter In Full Text Unformatted
“Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able” (Luke 13v24).
This is what the Lord Jesus Christ told someone who was enquiring of Him if few would be saved. He clearly explained to this person by His answer that the individual had something to do before he could be saved. This was in no way contradictory to the clear message of Scripture that salvation is “to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly” (Romans 4v5). Rather the message being conveyed with such earnestness was that anyone wishing to be saved must set his mind to get salvation, with a determination that will not allow anything or anyone to stand in the way. It will not “land in his lap,” but rather the person must make up his mind to seek for it.
What the Lord Jesus was emphasising with such earnestness was the simple and dreadful fact that if an individual does not awaken to realise “I need salvation, I must set myself to find how I can be saved and nothing will get in my way until I have it,” then that person will never be saved. Life will pass on and the person will miss his opportunity of being saved. When life is over it will be too late.
In John 10v9 the Lord Jesus, when speaking to the people, said “I am the door: by Me if any man enter in, he shall be saved.” Entering into salvation is by way of Christ as He is the door, and there is no other way. He was the One who died for our sins at Calvary and Whom God raised from the dead. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4v12).
